NZ Document Assist checks your New Zealand documents for free before you pay anything. Send a photo of the document and the request you were given. Our document specialist, with 15 years’ consular experience, checks the version, the date, the names, who signed or certified it and whether the country needs an apostille or authentication. You get a plain answer, what needs fixing, and one all-in price if you want us to take care of it. The check is free with no obligation, and we reply within 2 business hours.
What we check
These are the six things that decide whether a NZ document is accepted overseas. We check every one, so you don’t have to know what to look for.
Why check before you pay anyone
DIA doesn’t fix mistakes. It sends the application back, and you start again weeks later, often with another international courier and a deadline getting closer. A wrong certificate, an out-of-date one, or the wrong kind of certification are all easy to spot before anything is lodged and painful to discover after.
The check takes us minutes. Getting it wrong can cost you weeks. That’s why we offer it free to everyone, whether or not you go ahead with us. See what this looks like in practice in our real document cases.
You don’t need to work it out yourself
If you’ve already spent hours on government pages trying to decode a checklist, you can stop there. Our document specialist spent 15 years in consular work, on the side that receives NZ documents and decides whether to accept them. We already know what embassies, visa offices, citizenship registries, banks and courts look for. Send us what you have and leave the rules to us.

Which documents the free check covers
Any New Zealand document going overseas, including:
Two things sit outside it. We can’t check or apostille documents issued by another country, because only that country can do it. And while we check your documents against the list you were given, we don’t give legal or immigration advice about the application itself.
Living overseas?
Working against a deadline from another time zone? If your document turns out to need a new certificate, we can order NZ certificates from overseas for you, apostille them and courier them to your door. Not sure whether you need an apostille or an authentication? Our guide to apostille vs authentication explains the difference, and the check will confirm which one applies.
Our guarantee, in plain words
We check everything before you pay. If we take your job and then find we can’t complete it, you get a full refund of our fee, plus any government or notary fees we haven’t yet paid. What we can’t guarantee is a decision made by an overseas authority. That part is theirs, which is exactly why we check first.
Frequently asked questions
Is the document check really free?
Yes. We check your document and the request you were given at no cost, and you’re under no obligation to use us afterwards.
What documents can you check?
Any New Zealand document going overseas: birth, marriage, death and name change certificates, criminal record checks, degrees and transcripts, powers of attorney, court and divorce orders, and notarised or certified copies.
How quickly will I hear back?
Within 2 business hours, Monday to Saturday (Saturday until 1pm), New Zealand time.
How do I send my document for a check?
Send a photo of the document and the request you were given by WhatsApp on +64 22 100 3242, by email to help@nzdocumentassist.co.nz, or through our contact form.
Can you check documents from another country?
No. We only check New Zealand documents. A document issued by another country has to be certified or apostilled by that country.
Do you check documents for a visa or citizenship application?
Yes. We check your NZ documents against the list the visa office or registry gave you. The decision on the application is theirs, and we don’t give immigration advice.
What happens if something is wrong?
We tell you exactly what’s wrong and what’s needed. If you’d like us to fix it, we send one all-in price first and only start once you say yes.
